Composer's Notes:
This work was commissioned by the High School Band in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. It is based on the American folk tune "Old Joe Clark." Most of the setting is in the style of a lively hoedown, with a slow section for contrast in the middle (we can assume Old Joe had to take a nap sometime). The work is appropriate for good high school ensembles, but college and professional ensembles will find enough in Old Joe to keep them interested as well.
