Composer's Notes:
This ten movement work was commissioned by the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago in celebration of their 25th anniversary. It is dedicated to their former president, William E. Lesher. It is a work that covers the gamut of musical styles, from high church "classical" to folk to jazz to contemporary gospel. The Latin text of the Te Deum is divided into sections and interspersed with movements in English and Spanish. Two choirs (or one large choir divided), a versatile instrumental ensemble, and a conductor are required. Mark Bangert of LSTC, who conducted the premiere, has written an extensive article about the composition, comparing and contrasting it to Handel's Dettingen Te Deum. The article is entitled "A School of Te Deums" and was published in Currents in Theology and Mission, June 1997. I have permission to send you a xerox of the article upon request. The exact instrumentation is: Reeds I-III, 2 Trps., 2 Trbs., Tba., Perc. (2 players), Pno., Org., Synth., 2 SATB choirs, Strgs.
