Composer's Notes:
I arranged this spiritual for my adult church choir in 1997. Each of the three verses is always answered by the same soft refrain: "I ain't got long to stay here." There is a small amount of divisi, mostly in the men's part, but is not difficult. You may let one or two basses rumble along on a low D, which my guys love to get the chance to do (they don't have the opportunity very often with church choir music!) This setting has been very effective and moving in worship and concert situations and is especially suitable on All Saints Day or during Lent.
