Composer's Notes:
I wrote this on commission from the Minnesota Orchestra for their 1986 outdoor concert series. They performed it eight times, culminating in a July Fourth concert on the outdoor mall at the State Capital in St. Paul. It is a fairly challenging piece, both rhythmically and technically, particularly for the strings.
