Composer's Notes:
Kris Tjornehoj asked me to write a "contemporary" anthem for her choir at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Lakeland, Minnesota, in celebration of the congregation's tenth anniversary. They premiered it beautifully in September of 1997. The text is based on Chapter 5 of the Gospel of Saint Matthew, especially verses 13-16 where Christ encourages us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
