A foot-stompin', barn-burnin' hoedown for your young singers!
Listen (mp3, 1.7 MB; 1996 Minnesota ACDA Elementary Honors Choir, Cora Scholz conducting)
Composer's Notes:
This is the third in a set of four musical settings of wonderful texts by Arnold Lobel from his book Whiskers and Rhymes. I was commissioned to write them for the 1996-97 ACDA Minnesota Elementary Honors Choir, and they have since been published as separate octavos by Shawnee Press/Mark Foster Music. Friendly Fredrick Fuddlestone is a rollicking hoedown for 2-part children's chorus, piano and fiddle (or clarinet, which is used on the other pieces in the set). It has been a bestseller since being published. The singers even get to do some foot-stompin' and hand clappin' at the end. See also Four From "Whiskers and Rhymes".
